The Underschool is the mysterious labyrinth of rooms located beneath the surface of the school. Players can engage in combat to fight the creatures within and discover its secrets.

Overview

The Underschool is first unlocked through a ritual at the Mana Front. From there, the player can begin combat, each victory unlocking a new room and slowly expanding the Underschool.

The structure of the Underschool is similar to that of a tree - each "branch" or tunnel[1] is a series of rooms which are connected to The Spine. At the end of each branch is a certain reward, which is dependent on that room's biome.[1] As the player progresses further, the difficulty of each room begins to rise.

Biomes

A tunnel's biome influences its rooms' appearances and the type of rooms that may spawn within it.

The Spine

The Spine is a linear series of tunnel and ladder rooms that extend into the depths of the Underschool. All other paths protrude from The Spine like branches. As the player descends, each room increases in difficulty. No structures can be placed in these rooms.

Completing battles in The Spine unlocks new Events for the school.

Stone Ruins

Stone Ruins are a series of rock caverns. They contain Oraculums.

Lava Mine

Lava Mines are a series of lava-ridden mining caverns. They contain Foggy Mines[1] and are home to the Burrower Larva.

Fungal Cavern

Fungal Caverns are a series of fungal-infested caverns. They contain cursed mages.

Rooms

All Underschool rooms have the Underground and Grounded keywords, preventing Gremlins and Ooze from spawning. Certain rooms may also have the Lofted and Private keywords. With the exception of connecting rooms[1], ground structures can be placed in Underschool rooms, but wall structures cannot.

Clutter Room

Clutter rooms[1] spawn in all biomes. They are relatively unremarkable rooms that can contain Dire Rats, Stone Outcrops, and Small Carcasses. Occasionally, broken furnishings may appear.

Connecting Room

Connecting rooms[1] spawn in all biomes. They consist of slanted or diagonal tunnels with the purpose of connecting two other rooms together. No structures can be placed in these rooms.

Ward Room

Ward rooms spawn in all biomes. Although very similar to clutter rooms, they possess an Underschool Ward at the center. This ward has a 24 minute timer (normal speed, real-time) which, when exhausted, causes that room to be consumed by the Fog. The room must be challenged again to reclaim the room. The ward can be refilled by any staff member or student, which resets the timer.

Treasure Vault

Treasure vaults spawn in all biomes. They are extravagant rooms that offer a boosted reward when completing combat.

Oraculum

Oraculum rooms spawn at the end of the Stone Ruins. They contain an Oraculum at the center.

Foggy Mine

Foggy Mines spawn at the end of a Lava Mine. They contain various mineable crystals and a combat crystal, as well as a chance for Stone Outcrops and Sculpstone Veins.

Curse Room

Curse rooms[1] spawn at the end of a Fungal Cavern. They contain rare plant parts and a cursed mage at the center. After being freed by a staff member, they will join your school.

Burrower Larva

The Burrower Larva is preceded by two connecting rooms connected to The Spine. In order to face the Burrower Larva for the first time, the player and their party must defeat the two connecting rooms and the Burrower Larva in succession. The tunnel leading back to The Spine closes after the first battle, and will not reopen until the party has defeated the Burrower Larva.

After defeating the Burrower Larva, the room with the Rematch Effigy will be unlocked, allowing the player to battle the Burrower Larva again at any time.

Trial Room

The Trial Room[1] spawns at the end of the deepest Stone Ruin, preceded by four connecting rooms. Upon being cleared, the room with the Rematch Effigy will be unlocked, allowing the player the challenge a 3 skull difficulty battle at any time.
