The Founder is a unique staff member and the original founder of the school of which the player is now tasked to rebuild.

Overview

The Founder immediately becomes available upon completing the Repel Fog ritual at the Mana Front for the first time, revealing the surface. The Founder is linked to Founder's Grave - if this structure is shrunken or covered by the Fog, the Founder will gain the Disapparated status, becoming unavailable until the obstruction to their grave is cleared. The Founder's Grave cannot be destroyed.

Unlike other staff, the Founder has no conviction needs. They do not need to eat, sleep, or recreate. They are also not affected by any status effects, such as Celebratory, Sporeshroom Rash or Entangled. The Founder does not possess Death Saves and is unable to die.

The Founder uses the Founder's Wand, a unique wand exclusive to the Founder. This wand has no specialization and has a skill of 1 in every element. The Founder cannot participate in combat, but can otherwise perform any task and participate in any ritual that a regular staff member can.

For the purposes of rituals that scale in cost based on the number of staff present at the school, the Founder does not count towards these requirements.

Gameplay

The Founder is able to constantly perform tasks, due to their lack of need to eat, sleep or recreate. In addition, they do not need to be cared for thanks to their lack of conviction and inability to die, meaning they do not require meals, beds, or any other commodities.

However, the Founder's Wand has extremely low skill that cannot be improved. As a result, while the Founder is capable of constantly working, their working speed and efficiency will always be the lowest. It also means they cannot perform tasks that require higher skill proficiency, such as quilting or summoning gifted students.

Because of their immunity to all status effects, the Founder is an excellent choice for harvesting Sporshrooms or Trapdoor Vines without any risk to their conviction or being entangled.

Trivia

• The Founder's appearance is randomized at school creation between a Human, a Vivified, and a Wolfkin. The Founder cannot spawn as a Raven Cultist or a Shattered.
• In previous versions of the game, the Founder contributed to the staff number for hiring rituals. This feature has since been removed.
• In previous versions of the game, the Founder's Grave could be demolished by the player, permanently removing the Founder. This feature has since been removed.
